Our Mother’s Journey
Flora Mae Wagner departed this life December 18, 2019. She was born the daughter of Flora Campbell-Lowery and Harry Lowery, Sr. on September 6, 1935 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Flora attended Woodward High School where she graduated at the age of sixteen. While at Woodward she was involved in numerous activities and was an outstanding basketball player. Flora was baptized at Moran Baptist Church by the late Reverend John Ross. She met the love of her life shortly after high school, Virgil Loven Wagner. Flora and Virgil were blessed with five children, three boys (Shannon, Richard, and Curt) and two girls (Kimberly and Gail). Together Virgil and Flora opened three businesses, Wagner Café, Bargain’s Corner and Continental Lounge this was their passion. Flora enjoyed fishing, cooking, and gardening of all types. Above all, Flora’s most important love of all was family, especially her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Those left behind to cherish her memory include her children, Shannon (Theresa) Wagner, Curt (Alice) Wagner and Gail Dimery, and Kimberly (Derrick) Young; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Winifred E. Propps; and brothers, Harry A. Lowery, Jr., Clifford Lowery, Sr., and Richard Lowery, Sr.; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Flora was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Virgil Wagner; son, Richard; parents; sister, Minnie C. Lowery-Jackson; and brothers, John “Jack” Lowery, Sr., William Lowery, Frank E. Lowery, Sr., and LaVan Lowery.
Visitation will be 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, December 22, 2019, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Funeral services will be held 9:00 a.m., Monday, December 23rd, at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be directed to the family in her memory.

My condolences to the family. I had no idea, and often wondered what happened to Virgil and Flora. I played trumpet with the house band "Soul Pushers" at the Continental Lounge.
