Marlys E. Hamilton
December 08, 2019
Marlys Hamilton passed away December 8, 2019, at Bishop Drumm Care Center in Johnston, Iowa. A memorial gathering will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2019, at Highland Park Christian Church, 4260 NW 6th Drive in Des Moines. A private burial will be held at a later date.
Marlys was born January 2, 1936 in Atlantic, Iowa, to parents Robert and Grace Coldiron. She graduated in 1954 from East High School. She married the love of her life, Phil Hamilton, in 1958 and they moved to St. Louis for five years before coming back and raising their family on Des Moines’ “East Side” before moving to Urbandale where she had resided the past 23 years. In 1998, she retired from Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc. after 25 years of service.
She enjoyed summer vacations with family and friends “Up North” on Long Lake in Park Rapids, MN. There are many family and friends that were able to enjoy this fun with her and the family. She had a contagious and unconditional passion for the holidays and not one went by that she didn’t thoroughly enjoy with family and friends.
Marlys is survived by the love of her life and husband of 60 years, Phil Hamilton; children, Phillip (Carolyn) Hamilton, Sara (Todd) Hartsell, and Beth (Mark) Tiby, and grandchildren, Vincent, Allison, Hannah, Rachael, and Matt (Megan). She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Judy Coldiron and niece, Connie (Kevin) Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Grace Coldiron; brothers, Bill and Bob Coldiron, and nephew, Steve Coldiron.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be directed to Highland Park Christian Church.

I was a new grad of Iowa Methodist School of Nursing in the early 70s and had the privilege of working with Marlys on one of the Younker floors of Iowa Methodist. She taught me a lot about life, work ethic and we had a good time as well. She was a very fun loving lady to work with. I have one of her recipes for a cheese ball made with pineapple and green peppers that has her name on it. I often make it this time of year and remember a very special lady who impacted my life in a lot of ways. My sympathies to the family. Pat Andrews Williams

Marlys was a wonderful energetic thoughtful person! I met Marlys back in the early 70s. We worked across the hall from each other for physicians. She helped me plan my wedding as my husband was leaving for Germany in 2 weeks! I will never forget her and all the laughter we had. Some great memories! Thoughts and prayers are going out to all of her family.

I went to East High with Marlys. She was one of our bridesmaids in 1954, a few months after we graduated. Marlys was always a fun, fun person. Loved her! It is good that we have a God to trust in. Love and prayers to her family, although they do not know me. Hoop and Jeannine Davidson Johnson
