Shirley E. White

Shirley Eilleene White, 76, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2019. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, with cremation to follow.

Shirley was born November 21, 1943, in Parsons, Kansas, the daughter of William and Hazel (Holloway) Brown. She worked for many years in Customer Service at Dahl’s Foods. She loved to volunteer at the DMARC Food Pantry as well as helping the homeless. Shirley enjoyed traveling and reading books. She loved being outdoors, whether it be gardening, mowing the yard, riding the tractor and more. Shirley had a very strong faith in God, and above all else, she treasured time spent with her family.

She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, David A. White; son, John A. (Ann) White; daughter, Angelia White (Terry Johnston); grandson, Joe Charles (Ashley) Carter; great-grandchildren, Margaret Ann Carter, Joelle Huxley Carter, and Elijah John Carter; siblings, Gary (Karen) Brown and Sandy (Larry) McGhee; sisters-in-law, Janet Clark and Helen Coulson; brother-in-law, Dale White; numerous nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and many special friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Hazel Brown.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the National Kidney Foundation, or to the Des Moines Food Pantry in loving memory of Shirley.
