John Ford

John E. Ford, 84, died Friday, March 20, 2009 at the Altoona Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 23, 2009 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. with burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
John was born September 2, 1924 in Des Moines to Lynn and Helen Ford.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. John was a foreman for Iowa Power and Light Company for 41 years. He was a union representative for Local #499 Electrical Workers and a member of North Acres Chapel for many years. John enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time with his family and friends.
John is survived by his sons, Ralph (Rita) Ford and Joe (Patti) Ford; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Beverly Reich and Patty Mercer; and a host of other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Olive; his parents; son, Elton Ford; and daughter, Peggy Henderson.
