Johnny was a great, giving man. We met him 20 years ago. We took our son, JD,who was 12 at the time for Johnny to watch him bowl and tell us what kind of a ball to get him. He said I don't coach kids that young, and we said all we wanted was for him to watch him and tell us what ball to buy for him. After watching and talking to JD he came to us and said, I will be buying his ball if you will let me coach him. He was wanting to train him for Team USA. What an amazing man! For a year or so he taught JD so much, and he is thankful for the lessons Johnny gave him. JD's health deteriorated due to a life long disease, which eventually made it impossible to keep up with the lessons due to many hospitalizations. Johnny will be missed by all those who knew him, and we have always been appreciative of everything he did for our son years ago. Our thoughts and prayers go to his family.

To Carlotta and the extended family.
I always enjoyed being around John as he was jovial and full of fun. The "Yo-Yo" champion of East Des Moines among many other tributes. He will be missed.

Johnny was my cousin. His mom was my dad's sister Johnny was a year younger and his brother Louis a year older. They lived a block from me when we were very young. We spent long hours playing together--well mostly Louie told us what to do and how to do it. Life took Johnny to Iowa and me to NC but we always stayed in touch. When I answered the phone and a voice said Hello, Darlin, I knew it was Johnny.I loved Johnny and know he loved me too. I will always treasure our memories. LaVoyce Hayes Harrell

Dear John. You will be missed by so many. You taught many in your bowling career and I know we all appreciated it. I'm sure the food industry will pay their respects also. Worked with you for 4 years at Hockenbergs. You were a joy to know.
Peace be with you, friend.
