Service Details

Sharon Kay Clement, 82, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2019, at her home in Bondurant, Iowa. She was born September 21, 1937, in Des Moines, the daughter of Merle and Ona McKeever.

Sharon spent her childhood growing up in Farrar, Iowa, where she was actively involved in 4H. She married Larry, upon his return from serving overseas in Korea, and they built their home in Bondurant where they resided their entire lives. Sharon retired at age 63 from Altoona State Bank after more than 30 years of faithful service. She was a member of Altoona United Methodist Church.

In their younger years, Sharon and Larry remained active by joining bowling leagues where they loved making memories at the bowling alleys and tournaments. She also treasured vacations spent with her husband and family, including her favorite vacation spot, Hawaii! Sharon enjoyed sewing and quilting throughout her life and took up China painting after Larry’s passing, teaching herself how to master both skills.

One of Sharon’s favorite pastimes was reading. Her love of the written word was shared with others in books clubs and other family members. She was an avid sports fan and loved cheering on her favorite team, the Iowa Hawkeyes (Go Hawks!). Above all else, Sharon cherished time spent with her family and her close friends, always genuinely invested and interested in the little details of how their lives were going.

Sharon is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Loren) Birchmier; son, Michael (Linda) Clement; grandchildren, Joshua (Melissa) Birchmier, Jarod (Breanne) Birchmier, and Brooke (Eric) Anderson; great-grandchildren, Adeline Birchmier, Marlo Birchmier, Monroe Anderson, Truett Anderson, and Henrik Birchmier; sister, Eilene Lloyd; brother, Larry Wayne (Carolyn) McKeever; nieces, Chris (Paul) Sterling and Kathleen Lloyd; as well as other loving relatives and many special friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Larry.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm Tuesday, December 3, 2019, at Altoona United Methodist Church, 602 5th Ave. SW, Altoona. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Wednesday, December 4, 2019, at the church with private family burial to follow at Canfield Cemetery.

Memorial contributions will be received by the family to be distributed to numerous charities that Sharon enjoyed.
