Fernando J. Chia

Fernando Joseph Chia was born June 29, 1959 in Des Moines, Iowa to Marion and Amalia Lozano Chia. He was a family man - devoted father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He retired from the City of Des Moines after more than 30 years of faithful service.
Fernando enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings, Iowa Hawkeyes, and Chicago Cubs play. He liked spending time at the casino, drinking his beer, playing cards, going fishing, and cracking jokes with everyone. Above all, he loved spending time with his daughter and his grandchildren.
Fernando passed away Sunday, November 10, 2019 at the age of 60.
He was preceded in death by his father, Marion Chia and his sisters, Cynthia Chia and Kathline Ann (Chia) Vasquez.
He is survived by his wife, Suzanne Cody; daughter, Stephanie (Chia) McLaughlin; son-in-law, Mitchell McLaughlin; grandchildren, Aryanna Chia, Lydia Diaz, Mackson McLaughlin, Meliah McLaughlin, and Montana McLaughlin; mother, Amalia Chia; sister, Elizabeth Chia; brother, Anthony Chia; sister-in-law, Pam Chia; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and his dogs, Chewy Duke and Paco.
Services will be held at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 15, 2019. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 16, 2019, and will be followed by cremation.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Fernando.

He will be missed had a lot of fun in our younger days parties fishing and just hanging out at the drive in movies he was always fun to be around prayers for his family
