Colleena Thornton

Colleena M. Thornton, 95, died Nov.10 at Valley View Village. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Colleena was born on Oct. 12, 1924 in Bagley, IA to parents Frank and Clara (Moore) Roberts. She graduated from North High School in Des Moines in 1942 and married Richard A. Thornton on Nov. 13, 1943 in Grenada County, MS at Camp McCain.
Colleena was a member of West Des Moines Christian Church and a member of the P.E.O Sisterhood, Chapter EH. Colleena enjoyed reading, listening to big band music and spending time with her children, grandchildren, nieces and friends.
She is survived by her daughter Patricia Colombero of Brownsburg, IN, son Gary Thornton of West Des Moines, sister-in-law Ruth Roberts of Urbandale, four grandchildren-Corrie Colombero, Brandon Colombero, Carly Colombero and Patricia Thornton, and one great-grandchild-Theo Farnie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard, brother Jack Roberts and sister-in law Jean Stewart.
Memorials may be made to West Des Moines Christian Church.

Gary, I am so sad to discover that your mom has passed. I was just going to reach out and tell you Merry Christmas and check on her. She was an absolute blessing! And you went over and above in your care for her. I always promised her she would see her mother again and she would light up when I said it. That promise has been met.
