Virginia Louise Ruby (Granny)

Virginia Louise Ruby, 84, was born March 7, 1935 in Nashville, Tennessee, the daughter of Herschel and Pearl (Lackey) Coleman. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Saturday, November 9, 2019 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha.

Louise enjoyed fishing, camping, sitting outside on warm summer days, spending time with her family and friends around the “bongfar” (that’s the way she would say it), watching her Lifetime movies, and singing her favorite country music songs. She also enjoyed watching her Iowa Hawkeyes.

Louise is survived by her children Floyd Walker, Ginger Deaton (Randy), John Walker (Jacque), James Edward Walker (Virginia), stepchildren Larry Ruby, Jr. (Brenda), Cherie Kemp, a number of grand and great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, other loving relatives and many special friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Larry Ruby, Sr., step-daughter Brenda Ruby, her sisters Mary Francis and Helen Ruth, and brother Billy.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 14 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, with services to follow at 2:30 p.m. Burial at Berwick Cemetery and reception following at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines.
