Shirlee Ann Sprague-Brown

Shirlee Ann Sprague-Brown, 71, passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at Taylor House Hospice. Shirlee was born to Maurice and Evelyn Sprague on October 15, 1948, in Des Moines.

Shirlee graduated from Bondurant-Farrar High School in 1966 and earned her BA in history from the University of Iowa in 1970. Shirlee moved to the San Francisco Bay area after graduation, and spent many years in the Bay area before returning to the Des Moines area in the 1980s. She was married to Daniel A. (Dan) Brown in October 1987.

Shirlee worked as a legal secretary for many years at several different law firms in the Des Moines area, until she retired. She spent her retirement years as she’d always wanted, reading multitudinous books in her little “cottage” home in Berwick.

She is survived by her extended and eccentric family, which includes her brother, Ray (Amy) Sprague of Altoona; niece and nephew, Ivy Sprague and Clayton (Sarah) Sprague; great-nieces, Chloe and Keslee; and a host of extended (and also eccentric!) family and friends.

Shirlee was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Daniel.

A private family graveside service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to UnityPoint Taylor House Hospice in memory of Shirlee.
