Lars Peder Boerre
November 02, 2019
Lars Peder Boerre of Urbandale, Iowa died on November 2, 2019, at the age of 64, after a hard-fought 137 day battle following a double lung transplant, but his larger-than-life persona and trademark stubbornness will not be forgotten. He was born December 1, 1954, in Faaborg, Denmark. He was the youngest son of the late Asger and Annelise Jessing Boerre.
Affectionately known as Lars Peder by his family and many friends, he was a butcher by trade, a professor at the Royal Danish Meat Trade School, a tremendous cook and avid bargain hunter. He despised wasting anything, wearing pants (especially after a drink or two), and anyone who came over to his house and claimed they were not hungry.
But Lars Peder had many loves, too. He loved his wife, Eva Boerre, to whom he was married to for 42 loving years. He also dearly loved his two boys, Lasse (Billie) Boerre of Grimes, and Dennis (Robin) Boerre of Adel, and his wonderful niece/daughter, Malene (Anders) Steffensen of Bojden, Denmark. He took extreme pride in his family and especially his grandchildren, Claire, Helena, Axel and Jace; and nephews, Mathias, Magnus, and Marius who affectionately called him Farfee or Oncle Peder. He is also survived by his sister, Dorthe Jorgensen of Denmark.
Lars Peder was world renowned for his lack of patience, not holding back his opinion, and a knack for telling it like it is. A people person, he never met a stranger. His devout feistiness and stubbornness served him well throughout his life, from growing up with not much, serving in the Danish National Guard, playing on the Danish National Youth Handball Team, coaching and playing many sports, owning and operating LPB Inc., and many other successful businesses. And even in these last few months, Lars was a model of strong will, amazing faith, and sheer determination right up until the end of his journey here on earth.
He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by many friends, family, neighbors, nieces, and nephews. Preceding Lars Peder in death were his parents; older brother, Ole Boerre; his brothers-in-law, Leif Knudsen and Erik Jorgensen; and his unborn daughter, Emma.
Tremendous heartfelt thanks go to the University of Iowa Lung Transplant Team as well as the truly compassionate and exceptional nurses and aides of Floor 7 Recovery. You all provided much more than just comfort to Lars Peder, but also provided a sense of humor, peace and tranquility during this amazing 137 day journey. You are loved.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Parkway in West Des Moines, with funeral services following at 11:00 am.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Amanda the Panda, 1821 Grand Ave., West Des Moines, IA 50265. In Lars honor, please consider becoming an organ donor.

We didnt know his name; he was the guy at the Hy-Vee Starbucks every Saturday morning who talked to my girls and me. We looked forward to sharing small talk with this warm-hearted man. He would make my girls laugh and they enjoyed filling him in on our weekend plans. Saturday mornings will never be the same. We will miss you.

I met Peder many years ago when my wife Lynn and I lived in Florida. We became great friends very quickly and I have many, many memories of all the good times we had.
Although we both moved a few years ago I thought of him and our great times almost every day.
I will never forget him and Eva and the kids and grandkids who we were lucky enough to meet.
I have had many friends over the years but I have to say Peder was among the best.
He will always be in my heart.

Dear Eva and Sons, I was privileged to visit with Lars Peder and all of you upon hearing from Danish Brotherhood friends of your arrival in Des Moines from Denmark. I visited you in your West Des Moines apartment and then in your home just south of Des Moines. I later moved from the area, and missed getting together, but have never forgotten the Danish charm and special friendship of Lars Peder,
you Eva, Lasse, and Dennis.

We have prayed for Lars, Eva and the whole family through these tough days. Lars served on the Timberline Homeowners Association and hosted the annual potluck at his place. He was a unique man, and I always enjoyed visiting with him.

Lars was a faithful and generous donor to Brants Great Pumpkin Festival, with a tender heart toward Brant and his family since the beginning. He was always kind and welcoming to me, and we appreciated his and the LPB familys generosity more than I can say. May God comfort you in your loss, and with the assurance you will see him again.

We were so sad to hear of Lars passing from Marlene & Jerry White. We missed you both every Sunday and were so thrilled when Lars got to have his double lung transplant. Marlene kept us informed of all his ups and downs. We will miss his infectious laugh and sense of humor. Our heartfelt condolences to Eva and all the rest of the family. Bonnie is having knee replacement surgery on Monday so depending on how the surgery goes we may miss seeing you on Tuesday but know our hearts are there.
