Tony Mehalovich

Tony Mehalovich Jr., 87, entered Heaven on October 29, 2019 at Every Step Kavanagh Hospice House in Des Moines, IA, from complications of pneumonia.
He was born at home in Des Moines, IA to Tony Sr. and Nellie (Hague) Mihalovich on November 13, 1931. Tony graduated from Des Moines Technical High School in 1951 and Faith Baptist Bible College and Theological Seminary in 1973.
He accepted the Lord as his personal Savior on September 11, 1950. Tony married Molly Nickel on May 9, 1953.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War era, a factory worker, a Baptist preacher and a bank courier. Tony was a member of the Altoona Regular Baptist Church and volunteered at Whispering Cedars Baptist Camp in Genoa, NE.
Tony worked many jobs from factory worker to Baptist preacher. He took pleasure in putting together puzzles with family and spending time with friends eating Senior Meals at the Altoona Senior Center. Tony also loved petting dogs, feeding the birds and squirrels, and taking care of his fish tank. He enjoyed talking with young children no matter where he went, but especially when he would take people to IHOPs.
Tony is survived by his children, Susan (Dan) Speed, Joyce (Phil) Tilson; grandchildren, Paul ( Alyssa) Speed, David (Pamela) Speed, Jonathan Tilson, Nathan Tilson, Alyssa Tilson; great-grandsons, Jack and Josiah, and a foster great-grandson. In Laws, Evelyn Mathews, Wayne, Danny, Bill (Margene) Nickel; and many nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law; and many special friends.
Preceded in death by his wife; parents; a great grandchild; his siblings and their spouses: Lawrence, Ed, Nellie, Marguerite, Rose, Jack, Mary; 2 infant brothers; and 1 infant sister; brother-in –law, Keith Mathews; and sister-in-law, Cheryl Nickel.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, November 2, 2019, at Altoona Regular Baptist Church, 803 3rd Avenue SW in Altoona, IA with burial at Pine Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 5-7 p.m., also at the church.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Whispering Cedars Baptist Camp or Altoona Baptist Church, in loving memory of Tony.
