Kenneth “Casey” Raymond Cockayne, Jr., 75, was born August 23, 1944 in Des Moines, the son of Kenneth and Bernice (Judkins) Cockayne. He passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family Thursday, October 24, 2019.
Casey retired from Pepsi Cola after 38 years of faithful service. He was a proud graduate of East High School where he lettered in many sports. Casey enjoyed playing men’s fast pitch and slow pitch commercial and recreational for numerous years, as well as coaching girls’ softball. In his younger days, he loved roller skating for the Terrace Roller Rink among others, and won countless awards in speed skating. Casey played hockey at the Greater Des Moines Ice Arena, boxed for the Golden Gloves and one Toughman Contest. Classic cars were a passion for Casey, and he treasured nights spent showing his cars as well as friendships built attending Cruise Nights. Casey loved the outdoors and was an avid camper throughout his life. He was always telling jokes and was quite the prankster. Casey loved hanging out in bars, especially Ron’s, and loved partying and having fun with his friends. If you knew Casey, you will always remember the 34 surprise birthday parties that he threw for himself!
Casey married Karen Brown and together they had two sons, Kenny III and Kelly Ray. He then married Dianne Cathleen Gustafson and they had one son, Cory Allen. In addition to his three sons, he will be remembered by his grandchildren, Mallory and Jennifer; his great-grandson. Jax; siblings, Karolyn Fitzgibbon and Sharon Fisher; his half-siblings, Michelle Wilson, Kendra and Mike Cockayne; numerous nieces and nephews; other loving relatives and many special friends. Casey was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Denise and Dennis Cockayne.
The family will greet friends from 12:30 to 2:30 pm on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. followed by a Vigil Service beginning at 2:30 pm. Cremation will follow the service.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to distribute amongst numerous charities that were special to Casey.
