Dale Seiberling, 88, passed away October 21, 2019, at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines. He was born August 9, 1931, in Hampton, Iowa, the eighth of nine children born to Leslie and Emily Seiberling.

Dale grew up in Mitchellville, Iowa, and attended Apple Grove Orchard School. After receiving his father’s blessing, he joined the United States Coast Guard at age 17. Dale married Juanita Poole on October 21, 1960.

Dale served during the Vietnam War from 1968-1969 on the WHEC-40 Winnebago Coast Guard Cutter. He then performed clerical duties for more than 23 years, achieved rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer, and retired in 1974 in Cape May, NJ.

After retiring, they moved to Pearl, MS prior to residing in Mitchellville, IA from 1977-1987. They then moved back to Mississippi where they lived from 1987-2009 when they decided to relocate to Iowa to be closer to their family.

Dale is survived by his loving wife, Juanita; children, DaNita (Mark) Cushatt of Colfax, IA, DeGee (Debra) Seiberling of Branson, MO, Melissa Padgett of Des Moines, Thomas (Judy) Seiberling of Idaho, Denny (Janice) Seiberling of California, Vickie Lachberg of Indiana; grandchildren Josh (Lisa) Cushatt of Newton, IA, Cory (Ashley) Cushatt of Colfax, IA, Bobbi Padgett of Des Moines, Sara Padgett of Des Moines, Andrew (Rebecca) McNeer of Wisconsin, Dalton Penner of Colorado, and Dale Seiberling of Branson, MO; great-grandchildren, Joslynn, Michaela, Ezra, Lorelai, Isabella, Sophia and Allison Cushatt and Seion, Lilith and Luna Thompson; brothers, Carl and Floyd; as well as other loving family and many special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Emily; and his siblings, Melvin, Gordon, James, Donald, Eolian, and Ernest.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29, 2019, at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW in Altoona. A private family graveside service will be held at Iowa Veterans Cemetery.
