Janis McAuley
October 16, 2019
Janis Ann McAuley, age 76, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.
Janis was born October 20, 1942, in Winterset, Iowa, to Claude and Essie Drake. Family was her first priority and she loved keeping in touch with them by talking on the phone. She enjoyed playing card games, crocheting, fishing, and she was a huge fan of WWE Wrestling. Her family will fondly remember her famous catch-phrases: When someone would take a photo of her, she’d always say, “Send that to me!” Any time anyone would buy something new, she’d say, “How much did that cost me?” And her favorite, “See you next month!”
Janis is survived by her daughter Paula Veres (Kevin), son Karl McAuley (Ramona), sister Donna Mae, grandsons Dakota (Jessica) and Mason, and a plethora of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Karl David McAuley, parents Essie (Snyder) Drake and Claude Francis Drake, brothers Jack, Bud, Glen, Donovan, John, Garry, Larry, and Fred, and sisters Betty, Marlys, Mary Jo, and Marilyn Joann.
Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m., followed by funeral service at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 21, 2019 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery in Pleasant Hill after the services.

I'm saddened to read of Janis' passing, but rejoicing because I know we will see her again. Years ago we spent a lot of time talking on the phone and at church. She enjoyed life, loved her family and God. My deepest sympathies to Paula and Karl.

Janis helped take care of me and my sister while we were growing up. We were not blood, we were not family, but she treated us like we were.
I'll never forget her.
