James Henry Holdredge

James Henry Holdredge was born on February 23, 1934 in Ames, Iowa to Earl and Dorothy (Nicholson) Holdredge. He married Marilyn Handeland on June 14, 1953 and had five children. He married Dixie Wright on February 25, 1974 and added three stepchildren to their family.

Jim loved spending time camping with family, woodworking, watching Iowa State games, riding bikes, joking and laughing with all his grandkids.

Jim passed away on September 27, 2019 surrounded by his loving family at the age of 85. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service to begin at 10 a.m., Thursday, October 3, 2019 at Sunshine Open Bible Church, 2130 Easton Blvd., Des Moines, followed by burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Jim is survived by his wife, Dixie of Des Moines; children, Cindy (Gary) Van Loon of Roland, Steve Holdredge of Buckeye, Garry Holdredge of Fort Dodge, Brian (Michelle) Holdredge of Clear Lake, Jeff (Jennifer) Holdredge of Story City, Mike Wright of Des Moines, and Pam Wright of Des Moines; seventeen grandchildren, Stacy (Chad) Rowson of Knoxville, Matthew (Haley) Van Loon of Cambridge, Jennifer (Ross) Langel of Bowie, Maryland, Michelle (Allan) Busch of Slater, Melanie Van Loon of Roland, Tammy (Jacob) Grady of Ankeny, Tina (David) Hanson of Roland, Nicole (Casey) Corral of West Pasco, Washington, Dalton Holdredge of Ames, Emerald Holdredge of Omaha, Nebraska, Tarrah Holdredge of Ames, Bryce Holdredge of Story City, Mickenna Holdredge of West Des Moines, Delaney Holdredge of Story City, Amanda Selvage of Des Moines, Matthew Wright of Des Moines, and Michael Wright of Florida; twenty great-grandchildren, Madilyn Rowson, Blake Rowson, Jacob Rowson, Tate Rowson, Warren Van Loon, Bruce Van Loon, Rose Van Loon, Connor Langel, Joey Grady, Isaac Grady, Donavan Hanson, Silas Hanson, Amelia Hanson, Ashley Selvage, Mya Selvage, Colby Selvage, Trehver Wright, Tatum Wright, Jayce Wright, and Josie Wright; and two siblings, Judy Lande of Huxley and Wally (Pam) Holdredge of Colorado.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Billy Holdredge; stepson, Bernie Wright; three step-grandchildren, Jason Wright, Justin Wright and Jamie Wright.
