Oscar David Kennard

Oscar David Kennard, 85, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2019 at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny, IA. Services will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. followed by a reception. Private burial with Military Honors will be at Iowa Veterans Cemetery.

Oscar was born on October 27, 1933 in Herndon, IA to Myrtle (Adams) and Flem Kennard. He was a Navy man in his younger years and later worked for Super Value for 30 plus years, often having perfect attendance for the year. He was a hard-worker and dedicated employee. Oscar enjoyed many activities, cheering for Luke Kennard of the Pistons, the Hawkeyes and the Cubbies. He played a good game of pool in his early years, volunteered for Meals on Wheels, hung out at the senior centers and often gave rides to others. He was happiest when he had an acreage, raising a few calves and digging in the dirt. Mostly, Oscar enjoyed telling jokes and being the life of the party. He loved being Gpa and Uncle Oscar.

He is survived by his children, Vicki (Chris) Hannan, Kevin, Mitch, Colin, Elaine and Debbie Kennard; and his grandchildren. Oscar was preceded in death by his wives, Frances Jane Kennard and Loretta J. Cole; and granddaughter, Shannon Joanne Kennard.
