Alice Anne McNamara 79, died Sunday, March 15, 2009 at her home from complications of lung disease. Funeral services will be 10am Wednesday, March 18th at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home with burial following at Norwalk Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5-7pm Tuesday with a rosary at 7pm at the funeral home.
Alice Anne was born June 17, 1929 in Moravia, IA. She graduated from Monroe High School and continued her education at Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, graduating as a registered nurse. Alice Anne married William L. McNamara in Des Moines in 1950. She worked as a teacher’s aide in the Norwalk School district and retired as an assistant city clerk and dispatcher for the Norwalk Police, Fire and Rescue. Alice Anne loved to garden, work in her yard, crochet and was an accomplished seamstress.
She is survived by her children Kathleen Anne (Charlie) Goldstein of Denver, CO, Tom (Karen) McNamara of Norwalk, Elizabeth Mae “Boo” (Lee) Cann of Bettendorf, IA, Kevin (Shari) McNamara of Norwalk; her sister Elizabeth Ann Greer of Berea, KY; her brothers Forrest Matherly Jr. of Monroe, Carl Matherly of Johnston; 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
