Dick was a mentor to many officers including me. I will never forget him pulling up to 9th & High were I was FROZEN while directing traffic. He had a hot cup of cocoa and demanded that I set in the car and warm up. He is a true brother and he and Jackie are true Angels. God Bless them and their families, especially Shelly and Tim.

Forty years ago when I was a young cop, Dick approached me about working an off duty job for a merchandise show that Central Tractor Farm and Family Center was putting on here in Des Moines. I took him up on his offer. It was while working that show I met a lady by the name of Meg Royse. As a result of that meeting Meg and I were married a few months later. Meg was the best thing that ever happened to me in my life. And I never hesitated to thank Dick for giving me that job that allowed me to meet her. Dick was blessed to have had Jackie by him for all those years, just as I was to have had Meg. Thanks again Dick.
My best wishes are extended to your family.
