Makenzie JoTank, 3 years old, passed away at her home in Ankeny, Iowa on Saturday, January 13, 2007 following a brave battle with a brain tumor. Services will be….
Makenzie was born on February 28, 2003 in Davenport, Iowa to Andrew and Kelly (Larssen) Tank. She was a member of Holy Family Trinity Lutheran Church in Ankeny where she also attended Sunday school. She attended preschool at Prep Preschool in the three year old class in Ankeny. Makenzie loved spending time with her twin sister and best friend, Abbie. She also loved Barney, Dora, Diego, and watching movies. Her favorites included Fox and the Hound, Homeward Bound and the Lion King. She also liked singing, dancing, listening to music, playing dress up, painting, coloring, swinging, running, and animals of all kinds, especially her dogs Buzz and Sadie. Makenzie was an avid Iowa State Cyclone fan and loved to take Pony rides. Makenzie had sparkling blue eyes and blond hair. Her smile could light up a room. Makenzie had the ability to draw out the best in everyone she met. She was an inspiration to many throughout the country during her illness. Makenzie spoke openly about going Home to be with the angels and Our Father. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, an education fund for Abbie, and the Candlelighters Targeted Therapeutics Research Initiative to help find a cure for pontine glioma brain tumors.
Survivors include her parents, her twin sister, Abbie, grandparents Ken and Annette Tank, Maysville, Iowa; great-grandfather, Wayne Ernst, Eldridge, Iowa; great-grandmother, Amanda Larssen, Davenport, Iowa; aunts and uncles Kim and Steve Schmidt, Mason City, Iowa; Kathy and Todd Gehrls, Dixon, Iowa; Lisa and Nathan Tank, Eldridge, Iowa, and Marijo and Paul Anderson, Solon, Iowa; Cousins Corey Schmidt, Hailee, Taylor, and Erin Gehrls, Troy and Kelli Golinghorst, Brandon, Kirsten, and Katelyn Anderson, and several extended family members and close friends. Already waiting in Heaven for Makenzie are grandparents Ken and Jeanne Larssen, great grandmother, Norma Ernst, great grandfather, Art Larssen, and special “grand” friends, Bob and Nancy Miller.
