Don Medici

Service Details

Don Aldo Medici was born in Des Moines, Iowa on June 9, 1965 to Donald and Joan Medici. He was the baby, and possibly the favorite, of the family which also included sisters Kim and Jolea.

Donnie grew up in Ankeny, but was lucky enough to split his time there with time spent in Walker, Minnesota where his family owned a fishing resort on beautiful Leech Lake. This was truly a wonderland for an outgoing and adventurous kid! He spent his days chatting up guests and attempting sometimes ill-advised tricks like riding his bike off the end of the dock to the delight of the resort guests. The reception was decidedly less positive when his dad caught him driving the lawnmower down the boat ramp into the harbor. Every single person Donnie touched in his life is sure to have a “remember when he . . .” story. We are so, so grateful that he will live on in the best possible way through those stories.

Donnie was steadfast in his love of his family and friends. He was always quick to make a friend and willing to help out in any way he could. In his final days with us, he made friends with the wonderful staff at Taylor House Hospice and kept front door volunteers busy with the steady stream of family and friends coming to enjoy his company one last time. Again, we are grateful for those who made the days meaningful for Donnie and all of us.

Donnie was a carpenter by trade, but most loved to work on anything with moving parts. He loved stock cars and mud trucks and hanging out at the track with his friends and sons Brian and Eric. His pride and joy was the ’57 Chevy he helped his dad rebuild. It was a labor of love for both of them and helped him keep his dad’s memory alive after Donald died in 2002.

In addition to his mother Joan Medici and sisters Kim Medici Shelquist and Jolea Tabaka,
Donnie is survived by his sons Brian Moore, Eric Hough, Don Medici, Jr. and grandchildren
Damian, Brianna, Jonathon, Skylar, Tyson and Ariana. He will also be missed by his large extended family and friends.

The family requests any memorial contributions go to the Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.

A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2019, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Visitation will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to service time.
