Vera May Weaver was born on May 8, 1929 to Floyd Christian and Bessie Margaret Stewart Strong at their home in Bridgewater, Iowa. Vera grew up in Adair County, Iowa graduating from Fontanelle High School. After graduation she moved to Des Moines where she met her husband, Darwin Weaver, and they were married on January 11, 1948 at Highland Park Christian Church. To this union were three children: Skip, Patricia and Royal.

She did clerical work off and on during her lifetime, working at Iowa State Vital Statistics, Dun and Bradstreet, National Handcraft, Iowa Lutheran Hospital, Iowa Lutheran Anesthesiology, and Hilltop Clinic and Dental. She was a stay at home mother when their children were young.

Vera loved to do puzzle books, puzzles and quilting. She and Darwin would travel and go camping before his death in 1990. She liked taking bus tours and was anxious to visit relatives and see the sites. She belonged to Capitol Hill Christian Church and to the Tuesday Quilting group there, as well as CWF.

She is survived by her children: Skip (Jean) Weaver, Patricia Voll, and Royal (Gull) Weaver; her grandchildren, Tonya (Houane) LoVan, Aimee (Clark) Middle, Jeremy Weaver, Mark (Brenda) Weaver, Tim (Erica) Voll, Jeff (Susan) Voll, Katie (Jeremy) Sharon, Carson (Steven) Jones, and Cera (Gabe) Matta; 11 great-grandchildren, Nikki (Ryan) Dorr, Vincent Weaver, Tommy Weaver, Skylar Middle, Addison Weaver, Olivia Weaver, Matthew Voll, Tyler Voll, Tyne Sharon, Zeke Sharon, and Bobby Jones; 1 great-great-grandchild, Landon Cha; two brothers, Donald (Patricia) Strong of Shreveport, LA and Marvin Dean (Lydia) Strong of Marion, TX; four sisters, Kathryn Carl of Greenfield, Nadine (Chuck) Avey of Stuart, Marge Wolfe of Marshalltown, and Joyce Crabb of Ohio; sister-in-law, Dee Strong of Shreveport, LA; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Darwin; parents, Floyd and Bessie Strong; brother, Charles Strong; son-in-law, Jimmy Voll; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Services for Vera May Weaver will be on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at Capitol Hill Christian Church, 3322 E 25th Street, Des Moines at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, and also one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
