Paula Dianne Van Horn, 59, passed away on August 15, 2019, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. She was born in Des Moines, on October 10, 1959, to Donald and Gerri Karns.
Paula adored animals of any kind. She loved spending time with her extended family, but Paula especially enjoyed her immediate family which included her pets.
Paula is survived by her husband, John Van Horn; sons, Andrew Curry and Billy Van Horn; daughter, Dana (Chris) Kelly; four grandchildren, Autumn, Willow, Wyatt and Beau; her pets, Oliver, Guthrie, Sissy and Walter; mother, Gerri Karns-Illstrup; brothers, Jon Karns and Raymond (Joanie) Karns; sister, Cheryl (Jim) Kaiser-Coe. She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Karns.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, September 8, 2019, at Karns Farm, 30450 250th, Dallas Center, Iowa 50063.

I have known Paula and the Karns family since she was a little girl. We are so sorry to hear about her death, she was a special person, May God be with her.

Paula has been a dear friend of mine for 37 years. We both loved the differences in each other. I will miss her blunt statements and say it as she sees it attitude. She offered me the awesome gift of friendship. May you find peace in her memories.
