David Glen Scieszinski
David Scieszinski died at home on August 5th, 2019 surrounded by family and friends. David was born December 12th, 1957 in Centerville, Iowa. He grew up in Appanoose County and Des Moines, graduating from Dowling Catholic High School in 1976. David excelled in sports in high school; football and baseball being his main loves. He played football at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls. He also coached many baseball and football teams, including his own sons’ teams.
David became a journeyman carpenter in 1983 through the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. Later in his career he worked as a building inspector for the City of Des Moines. He loved taking part in RAGBRAI, and spending time hunting and fishing at his lake house at Lake Rathbun. Dave had many friends, going back to high school and loved spending time with them. In spite of battling MS for many years, David worked at building community in his neighborhood. For his activism Dave was awarded the 2019 Volunteer of the Year by the Des Moines Metro Organization for Action.
David is survived by his mother, Wilma Scieszinski; brothers Bob (Pat) Scieszinski, and Doug (Laurie) Scieszinski; a sister, Debbie Wilson; two sons, Joseph (RaeAnn), and Matthew; two granddaughters, Aubrey and Avery Scieszinski; nieces and nephews, and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Bob Scieszinski Sr., and his older brother James Scieszinski. Dave requested no services. An informal gathering of friends and family will be arranged at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made out to the family of David Scieszinski and sent to Hamilton’s funeral home.

We always enjoyed helping David when he would come through the drive-up at the pharmacy. He will be missed.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family. I have known Dave and Debbie since grade school. Dave spent a few summers with our neighborhood friends and we got to know him a lot better, he was such a great guy.

Dave, we miss you brother. So we're going to gather any and all of your friends, teammates, classmates and former coaches who are in the neighborhood on Saturday, August 17 at Beaverdale Park from about 2-ish on. (Rain location is Cooney's) One last hurrah the way we did it back in the day.

I met David (he'll always be Skud to me : ) in 2nd grade. There's so many good memories but playing Here Comes the Sun on guitars at our 8th grade graduation program and him asking me to be a Groomsman at his wedding are pretty high up there. And I'll always remember later on after the MS had taken hold of him, how he'd talk about "just playing the cards your dealt" with that irrepressible smile spread across his face. Proud to be your friend Skud; Love you bro !

RIP my old friend. Nothing but fond memories playing football and baseball with you when we were young. You were always good for a great hardy laugh when ever we met. God bless.
