Service Details

Russell “Russ” Ray Waters, 73-¾, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2019, surrounded by loved ones. Russ was born in Lovilia, Iowa on October 23, 1945 to Raymond and Adeline Waters.

Russ married the love of his life, Gina (Tucci) Waters, on October 4, 1969. Together, Russ and Gina, established their family in Norwalk, Iowa where they raised their five children. Russ retired from Firestone in 2004, after more than 20 years.

Russ was known for his ornery sense of humor, his ability to spin a tall tale, and his endless supply of pocketknives. Russ had high expectations for his children and led by example. He taught them that family comes first, to fiercely protect loved ones, the value of hard work, and to live life fearlessly. Russ was known to consider speed limits as suggestions while driving his Corvette or riding his Harley. Russ never met a stranger he couldn’t talk to, a dog that didn’t adore him, or a dessert he didn’t like. Russ will be remembered for his deep commitment to his family and his genuine friendship.

Russ is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Adeline Waters; and his brothers, Leonard and Larry Waters. His legacy continues through his wife, Gina; and their children, Gena (Derek) Hickey, Talia (Gary) Farmer, Brandon Waters, Cory (Heather) Waters and Colby (Katie) Waters; and grandchildren, Chase, Cade, Caleigh, GiaBella, Jamison, Harlow, Lillian, Sophia, Rosewyn, Gavin, Roslyn and Jocelyn. He is also survived by his siblings, Kay Hollen and Darrell Waters; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Sunday, August 4, 2019 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA. Committal service at Iowa Veterans Cemetery on Monday, August 5 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life at the Veterans Reception Center, 910 Main St. in Van Meter.
