Priscilla “Perky” Mae Winebrenner, 90, passed away July 27, 2019 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.

Priscilla was born May 16, 1929 in Scranton, Iowa to Ray and Stella Thompson. She grew up in Scranton where she had a newspaper route. Priscilla saved her money and bought her first bike, a red boy’s bike. She later worked at Reed’s Ice Cream Shop on Forest Avenue in Des Moines. She married John Winebrenner on April 21, 1948. They were blessed with four children. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church on SW 9th Street. Priscilla was a cancer survivor. She enjoyed doing cross stitch and crocheting. She loved cooking and baking, especially chocolate chip cookies, which she gave to everyone around town.

Priscilla is survived by her children, Sandy (Larry) Docken, Shirley Winebrenner, Becky Jennings and Jerry (Dee) Winebrenner; grandchildren, Tricia (Jason) Byers and Kaylyn (Kenny) Foutch; great-grandchildren, Karly and Kash Foutch; siblings, Patty (Jerry) Harrah, Leona McPherson, Linda Biery and Melvin Thompson; and a host of extended family and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband John; and her siblings, John Thompson, Janet Strunk, Gerald Thompson, Elizabeth Belger and Bonnie Weaver.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, August 4, 2019 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 am Monday, August 5th at the funeral home.
