Delmar “Mark” Walker, passed from this life on July 27, 2019 at Kavanaugh Hospice in Des Moines.

He was born in Monroe, Iowa on June 19, 1940 to Mark B. and Evelyn K. (Poortinga) Walker. Delmar “Mark” attended school in Monroe, Iowa, where he participated in track, specializing in the Pole Vault. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1958.

He met the love of his life Beverly Pauline Gordon, and they married on January 31, 1959. In all they were married 47 years until her death on Christmas day 2005. Born to this union were four children, Mark Edward, Michelle Marjean, Randall Todd, and Kurt Michael.

Delmar “Mark” retired from UPS as a diesel mechanic after 30 plus years and in his spare time repaired cars and farm machinery from his home garage. He returned to work for the Norwalk School Bus Barn as a driver and later retired as a mechanic.

In later years, he fixed and restored old cars, trucks, tractors, and motorcycles. He could build or fix anything. Anyone would tell you he was a great welder and he was a “fabricator” in more ways than one.

He loved to eat at the Social Station in Prole and would visit with everyone who came in and was treated like family by the folks that operate the restaurant. He loved spending time with his family, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and friends. He also loved going to the State Fair and was never separated from his little dog Peanut.

Delmar “Mark” is survived by his children, Mark (Brende) Walker of Cumming, Michelle Kelley of Kansas City, MO and Randall Walker of Norwalk; grandchildren, Amanda Kelley of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Chris (Carrie) Kelley of Shawnee, Kansas, Justin (Whitney) Kelley of Springfield, Missouri, Colton Walker of DeSoto, Brandon Diehm of Des Moines, Janet (Jeff) Hamilton of Beacon, Jenny (Jeremy) Ferdig of Glenwood, Missouri, Justin (Jeri) Southwick of Wick; 22 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly; son, Kurt and his parents, Mark and Evelyn Walker.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 pm Friday, August 2, 2019 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Funeral services will be held at 10 am Saturday, August 3rd at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Linn Grove Cemetery.
