When I started teaching at North High, 1st Sgt Jackson would walk by me and salute. I informed him that I was not a veteran and did not deserve a salute. He said, "You deserve it." That was the kind of a man he was. When my brother-in-law, a marine, died of ALS , 1st sgt did what he could so that the right thing was done. He made sure that all the classrooms at North had an American Flag and mentored us all. What I do miss was his singing in the halls of the school as he went about his duties. I am positive he is singing in the halls of heaven, with his comrades and the Lord. God Speed, George. You will be missed greatly.

1st Sgt was a strong positive influence on our daughter Kayla (McDowell) Atkinson during R.O.T.C. and during her school day... She didn't want to disappoint him so she worked hard at her school work under his guidance...When he retired from teaching she wanted to be transferred to another school.. I always believed it was because he wasn't there...Our family is honored to have known him...Semper Fi hoorah Rest in Paradise...At ease 1st Sgt Jackson... We will remember you fondly...

Jack was one of the kindest people I ever met. I remember he came into my room and asked if he could "apply" to be sponsor of the National Honor Society. He was willing to share his Vietnam experiences with my students, even though it was probably painful for him. Students and staff are better for having known him. My condolences to all of you.

1st Sgt was a great mentor. He helped me through some of my struggles while I was in High school. He wouldnt let me give up. I know that he made an impact in my life and others lives that went through rotc. He would always listen and encourage everyone to be better, better in school, better personally and better in in your community. he taught us to give back and hold our heads high. be proud of what we did. and always do our best. one thing that stays with me even today is what he told me my sr. year... if you want something go for it, if you don't like it change it, and never let others break you, you are worth my time and you are worth yours so be great.
the world lost a great man, thanks for your service and time with us and thanks for always pushing me to be better. you will be missed.
