Gunny Jackson (as I knew him) was one of the finest Marines I've ever known, and I am saddened to hear of his passing. I was stationed with him at 1st Marines at Camp Pendleton in 1988 and 1989. We worked for the Regimental CO (Col Gary Brown and then Col Jimmy McClung) in the S-1. I'll remember him as being the master of his domain - knowing when to bark orders and knowing when to sweet talk to get what he needed done. A man of great character and a great sense of humor. One story: One day, sitting on Gunny's desk, there was an official black and white photo (8x10) of the division commanding general that had been personally signed with a glowing message about Gunny Jackson. (All the units had these to put up on the wall to represent the chain of command.) I commented on how that was pretty cool that the CG wrote that about him. He promptly opened one of his desk drawers and pulled out a fresh copy of the photo, grabbed a sharpie, and asked me what I wanted written on my mine!

My first encounter with Sgt. Jackson was when North said my daughter was absent after I had dropped her off. I went to ROTC, where she was supposed to be and informed him that she better be there or I would hunt her down (I was not happy) He said "Ma'am? Did you serve in the military?" I replied, "No, I don't take orders well." We both laughed and yes, I found my daughter there, with his help-she had been in the back and was overlooked. We laughed about that for years.

First I want to say my condolences to family & friends. Second I want to remember the man, the Marine, the teacher, the instructor, the coach known to me as 1st Sgt Jackson. What can you say you will be missed. He made a impact in thousands of young adults lives; to be there and take an interest in us; to help mold us. We will always remember the jokes, trips, getting rides to practice, the acknowledgement of bonehead mistakes, words of encouragement, advocate on our behalf, and provide life advise. Thank you for being apart of all our lives and rest in peace!

First Sergeant Jackson was an awesome teacher who saw and brought out the best in all of his students including myself. A majority of the lessons I learned in his class twenty years ago, I still apply them to this day twenty years later. So thank you First Sergeant. Rest in Heaven Sir. Semper Fi

I went through school with George and graduated with him at MHS.I remember his athletic abilities and have fond memories of his comedic antics. (At times he wasnt even trying to be funny) Seems as though after school he spent his life bringing honor to our country as a Marine. I thank him for his service. He will be fondly remembered by his classmates. RIP old friend.

George is a classic example of what a truly good and honorable man is. I went all through high school with George and remember what a witty, friendly, kind and energetic person he was. He was a terrific athletic and did our school proud. Being a Marine Corp Brat myself, I truly admired that he joined the Marines and achieve such outstanding goals. But after reading the accolades from his students, and what touches my heart so, is all the love these students have for George. He truly touched and changed lives by his caring and love for them. I've always believed that you are what you do and George is truly a success. I am very privileged to say he was my friend and I thank God for letting me be apart of his life.
Prayers to his family and for all the students he loved and that were molded and helped by him.
