David Martin
Des Moines
David Raymond Martin, 57, was born June 17, 1962 in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Dale and Joan (Groves) Martin. He passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, July 17, 2019.
David will be lovingly remembered by his ornery smirk showing he was inevitably up to something. He enjoyed hunting, especially deer. David always took great pride in his work, and was a wonderful taxidermist who always displayed great detail and perfection. He proudly served his country as a Ranger in the Special Forces with the United States Army. You could find David frequently in his “Man Cave” watching Nascar or the news, and knew he wouldn’t take your call if you bothered him during that time. David had a heart of gold and opened his home and his heart to everyone that was blessed to know him. He was compassionate, dedicated and owned the title of the “Best Papa Ever” cherishing the special routines he shared with each of his grandchildren. Above all else, David treasured time spent with his family, whether it be weekly family dinners on Sunday, barbeques or bonfires.
David is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Ann Martin; his beloved daughters, Tiffany (Troy) Stanley and Ashley (Dustin) Allen; his pride and joy of his life, grandchildren Levi, Avah, Autumn, Tristan and Raelynn; his siblings, Cindy (John) Martin and Ken (Paige) Harkness; numerous nieces and nephews; his many “adopted” children and other loving relatives and special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joan Harkness and Dale Martin.
Cremation has occurred and burial took place at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery with military honors rendered. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of David.

I am so sorry for your family's loss. I haven't seen David since playing softball years ago, but I was always welcomed into his house to hang out with Tiffany as if I were one of his own children. It is very clear to anyone who knew his daughters that he was a great dad. Again, I am so sorry for your loss!

Ann, Tiff and Ash, my heart goes out to you and the rest of the family. I have so many great memories involving David: softball when Becky & Tiff played, the love for his dogs, how well he treated Becky and made her always feel welcome at your home, his love of hunting, and most of all how much he loved his family and was proud of all of you. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

So very sorry to hear this. David and Ann treated my daughter as their own as she and Ashley grew up. He was truly a family man as well as a great person.
