Alma D. Knapp

Alma Deloris Knapp, 88, went to be with the Lord Saturday, March 7, 2009 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Thursday at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Visitation will be held 5 to 8pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
She was born on April 22, 1920 to Joseph and Antonia Robertson in Grand Island, Nebraska. She married Herbert Ryder Knapp on January 7, 1935 in Aurora, Nebraska. They settled in Des Moines in 1939 where they raised their seven children.
Alma worked at City Drug Store and City Shop N Stop where she ran the Western Union until her retirement. She was active at the East Side Senior Center and had many lifelong friends. She had a gift for helping others and never thought of putting herself first. She will be missed by all who knew her. Her family looked forward to her delicious Sunday dinners! She was lovingly known to all of her neighbor kids as “Mama Knapp”.
She is survived by her children, Barbara Vance, Kathy (Roger) Rodriquez, Tim (Kim) Knapp all of Des Moines, Bill (Diane) Knapp of West Des Moines, Donna Scott of Mt.Ayr, Jim (Judy) Knapp of Placerville, CA; twenty four grandchildren, and many great and great great grandchildren.
Alma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herbert, son, Joel; sisters, Ella Robertson, Alice Thompson, Edna Crow, Dorothy Chamberlin and brothers, Joe, Frank and Bill Robertson.
