Sharon Leonard

Sharon K. Leonard, 67, died Friday, January 12, 2007 at Mercy Hospice-Johnston. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 16, 2007 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue. A private family burial will be held at Elm Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Sharon was born July 15, 1939 to John and Doris Walters. She was a member of Brethren Church in Ankeny. Sharon worked as a CNA, but her most important career was being a mother and grandmother to her family. Sharon enjoyed crocheting, playing the keyboard, crossword puzzles, and most of all, shopping.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, John and Doris Walters; husband, David O. Leonard; sisters, Imogene Howard and Karen Franck; brother, Dick Walters; and grandson, Levi Freeman.
Sharon is survived by her children, Lila (David) Mick, Tammy (Rick) Howard, and Dale (Kim) Freeman all of Ankeny, Donna (Greg) Oertwig of Des Moines; and Lori (Ray) Cochran of Huxley; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Sue (Jim) Parrish of Urbandale; sister-in-law, Vonda Walters of Des Moines; former husbands, Bob Liesener and Mike Freeman; and numerous nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.
Memorial contributions may be given to Mercy Hospice-Johnston.
