Allis May Mc Dannel, 84, died March 3, 2009 at her home from complications of congestive heart failure. Services will 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 9, 2009 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines.
Allis May Best was born to the union of Lula May Gillette and Samuel E. Best in St. Joseph, Missouri June 17, 1924. She received her high school diploma at the age of 52 and received a 2-year nursing degree from DMACC. She was a retired nurse and a member of the local TOPS Club.
She married Irvin Keith Mc Dannel on March 21, 1942. To this union five children were born. She is survived by daughter, Janet Bryant and companion David Lewis of Stanton, Iowa, daughter, Linda Hayes and husband Gerald of Indianola, Iowa, son, Allen Mc Dannel of Carlisle, Iowa, son, Paul Mc Dannel of Carlisle, Iowa, thirteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren. Many other friends and family.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Irvin Mc Dannel; son, Irvin Mc Dannel, Jr.; an infant grandson, Leslie Todd Mc Dannel, her parents, 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Family and friends will hold visitation on Sunday, March 8 from 2-4 p.m. at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens. Interment will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Memorials may be made to the family.

MY HEART AND PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU ALL. ALLIS WAS SUCH A WONDERFUL AND LOVING LADY. SHE TOUCH OUR LIVE SO VERY MUCH. I WILL NEVER FORGET HOW SHE HAS IMPACTED MY LIFE AND THE LIVES OF MY CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN. ALLIS WAS THE ONE WHO HELPED TAKE THE PAIN AWAY FROM MY MOTHER, BEVERLY, WHEN SHE WAS IN HER LAST DAYS. SHE TOOK THE TIME TO COME TO THE HOUSE AND HELPED ME MORE THAN YOU KNOW. I WILL NEVER EVER FORGET HER. NOR WILL I FORGET HOW MUCH SHE HAS LOVED MY JOCIE. ALLIS TRULY WAS A GIFT FROM GOD IN MY LIFE. GOD BLESS YOU ALL AND BE WITH YOU NOW AND ALWAYS. PLEASE LET PAUL KNOW I AM THINKING OF HIM.
