There isn't enough words to say how much everyone who knew Bobby and loved him will miss him. Even though in our busy lives and little time to be together, you always knew if you needed something Bobby would be there. Bobby will always have a special place in my heart and I will never forget his smile and kind words and generosity. I could not have been more blessed to have him as a Uncle.

To all of Oggie's family:
I left KCCI in 1995 and ever since I left I always received an e-mail from Oggie on my birthday and holidays. He never said a lot - just a good well wish. He always kept me informed as to what was going on. I had my calendar marked to send him a Happy Birlthday e-mail this Friday the 6th. I went ahead and sent him the e-mail as soon as I heard of his passing anyway. My heart is sad for all his family. Oggie was a great technician and I am glad he was my friend.

When we first heard that Oggie was going to retire from KCCI, my first thought was, "How are we going to run this place?" We were still joking last week about how it took three of us to take over his duties--*without* counting the crew positions that he covered during newscasts.
He was the glue that held our department's schedule together. When we were short-handed, and no one else was available, Oggie was there. It didn't matter if it was a weekend, morning or evening--as long as he was able to leave after the Sunday morning news in time to make it to church.
I think that what made Bob successful in handling the complex issues of scheduling an engineering staff is that he was so hard to say "no" to. There were more than a few times when I was looking forward to a few days off when the phone would ring, and Oggie would be on the other end, asking if I could come in at 4:30 in the morning, on my day off, and work a newscast. I could very rarely find a way to say "no". Perhaps it was because he really wasn't asking for anything he wouldn't ask of himself.
Oggie also left a legacy in the historical research and artifacts that he contributed to www.desmoinesbroadcasting.com --a website which chronicles the history of broadcasting in our area. He told me about the hours that he spent in the microfilm room at the downtown library, looking through old newspapers for bits and pieces of information about long-forgotten and not-so-forgotten radio stations--how they moved from one city to another, changed frequencies or call letters, and eventually became the stations that we remember. It was a lot of digging, and it's information that may have been lost to history if he hadn't used his "shovel" to find it.
One last thing that I remember--in ten years of working with Oggie, I can *never* remember him losing his temper, or even raising his voice. I don't think I can even remember him sounding annoyed. That's a rarity in a business where stress is something we deal with every day, and tempers occasionally flare.

We praise God for the Christian life of Bob Ogburn. Bob was an active part of the worship ministry of Fort Des Moines Church of Christ for years. His gentle and giving spirit modeled the Christian lifestyle in all he did. Sharon and I will always remember the worship and fun he gave the whole church when he played the organ for our church services. His dedication to his family, especially his beloved Mother, was a witness to everyone. Bob's faith has made him whole in Christ! Praise the Lord!
