Robert Porter

Robert John Porter, 83, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, February 17, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 21, 2009 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th, with visitation one hour prior. Cremation will follow the funeral and private inurnment will be held at a later date.
Robert was born July 28, 1925 to Arthur and Katherine (Doyle) Porter. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. Robert worked for Pittsburgh Des Moines Steel and Smith’s Texaco for many years. He was an avid bowler and a jack of all trades carpenter. Robert enjoyed family vacations in the yellow bus that he constructed from scratch, deer hunting, fishing and playing cards with friends.
Robert is survived by his children; Gary (Benita) Porter, Bonnie Porter, Lorraine Fisher, Terry Porter, Robin (Travis) Burnett, Carolyn Porter, Jerome (Suzy) Porter, Bill (Rhonda) Porter, Larry (Beth) Porter, Allen (Cathy) Porter, and Michael Porter, sister; Patricia Ackelson, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Maxine Virginia (Halbrook) Porter, daughters, Diane Lorraine and Diane Cheryl; son, Robert Junior; granddaughter, Samantha Harms and sister, Veronica Higgins.
