Janet Peterson
July 01, 2019
Janet A. Peterson, age 62 of Des Moines, passed away July 1, 2019 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, IA after a short illness. She was born on June 29, 1957 in DeKalb, IL to Orrin and Birdie Peterson.
Janet graduated from Crystal Lake High School in 1975 and attended Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. She truly enjoyed her career as a Senior Programmer Analyst at Telligen in West Des Moines for the past 10 years.
Janet was a strong, talented, and fiercely independent woman. She had a dry sense of humor which we loved about her. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, and blessed many with her handmade gifts. Cribbage was a favorite game and she played as often as she could. Janet was a genuine and caring friend and many people were blessed to know her. She enjoyed spending time with her family, and was especially devoted to her "fur babies" Cleo and Maya.
Janet is survived by her mother, Birdie; her siblings, Diana (Glen) Floress, Jim (Betty) Peterson, Bob (Dawn) Peterson; nieces and nephews, Jenna Floress, Sarah (Jesse) Fortner, Katie (Matt) Peterson-Reding, James, Anna and Erin Peterson; her great-nieces and nephew, Maya, Aiyana, Matthew and Isabel; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Orrin Peterson, and her grandparents.
Two celebrations of life are scheduled, the first at Hamilton Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines on July 27, 2019 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. The second will be held in Crystal Lake, IL on September 7, 2019.
Memorials may be made in her name to the Animal Lifeline, PO Box 12, Carlisle, IA 50047 or online at https://www.animal-lifeline.com

My heartfelt sympathy and prayers to Birdie, Bob and the rest of Janet's family. I thought I knew a lot about Janet, but I knew so little. We worked together for years and I'll miss our dry humorous jokes. I miss her and was on vacation when I heard she had passed. I was saddened and prayed someday soon, Cancer wouldn't be taking good people from us.

Janet was our neighbor and she was a delight to know. She would frequently share veggies she'd gotten at the co-op or help me with gardening tips. She knew a great deal about flowers and plants. My husband once commented that she had the most beautiful aquamarine eyes he'd ever seen, and indeed she did. Janet loved to visit over the fence so to speak, and always had a funny story to share. We miss her every day. She was a brave and dignified lady and faced her illness with courage. Our hearts were touched by knowing her.

My sympathy and prayers go to Janet's mom and family. I had talked wirh her when she was first starting her treatment before i left on vacation and when I returned was surprised to hear that she was gone. I enjoyed working with her and visiting with her after I retired. She had a very wry sense of humor and a lot of common sense. Unfortunately I will be unable to attend her visitation and meet and visit you in person. I hope you good memories of her will comfort you.

My thoughts and prayers are with Janet's Mom and family at this time. I have worked with Janet for several years. Now I see her name on programs that I'm working on and wish I could have another conversation with her. She often talked fondly of her family and we felt like we knew you. Unfortunately, I will be on RAGBRAI (the bike ride across Iowa) on the day of the memorial service and I won't get to meet you in person. May God give you comfort and peace.
