James "Jimmy" Torres
June 26, 2019
James “Jimmy” Torres, 53, passed away June 26, 2019, at the University of Iowa Hospital. He was born in Minnesota on May 14, 1966, to John and Susan Torres.
Jimmy was always and foremost, a family man. He loved football Sundays and the Chicago Bears. Cooking was an art and a release, feeding the masses meant the world to him. He never met a child that he didn’t treat as his own and he would do just about anything to make someone laugh even if it meant hurting himself. His smile was infectious and there was never a situation in which he wasn’t doing his very best to make people laugh. His dancing was a sight to see. Jimmy was a major Prince fanatic, and some would argue, even a look-a-like. Some of his guilty pleasures including watching his self-proclaimed “girlfriends” Judge Judy and Ellen on TV, and absolutely blasting the volume for ID channel for whatever reason. Jimmy loved each and every one of his pets and the feeling was mutual. He’s tamed ducks, bunnies, raccoons, dogs, cats, you name it.
Jimmy was a protective man, but had the biggest heart of anyone you’d ever meet. His kids and grandkids were his pride and joy and anyone could see how much they loved him back. Jimmy enjoyed playing softball and golfing with his brothers and friends. He was a hard worker and inspired many, many people along the way. He loved his job and work family at MTS contracting. He never had to be given an instruction twice and made everything look easy. He was good at nearly anything he tried. Jimmy was the type to give the shirt off his back to anyone in need and frequently donated to the homeless.
Jimmy is survived by his daughter, Afton (Rich) Villalobos; sons, Sage and Dante Torres; grandchildren, Karma, Olivia, Felix, and Jamison; his mother, Sue Torres; brothers, David, Scott (Michelle), Billy (Sue) Torres and Rick (Pooh) Carr; sister, Kim Freund; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as other loving family and many special friends. He was preceded in death by his father, John Torres.
A celebration of life gathering will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2019, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Jimmy.

My heart is broken, Jimmy. To see another one of our group, Ol' friends from Phillips Elem., go to Heaven. Just remember, Jimmy that you will live forever in our hearts. Your goofy smile, and your contiguous laugh, and don't forget your sense of humor will ALWAYS be in our hearts. You will be missed Lil' man.
