June 13, 2019
Frank “Sonny” Utsler, 78, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2019. He was born on May 12, 1941 in Indianola, Iowa.
Sonny had served for the United States Army and was a lifetime member of American Legion. In 1959, Sonny had met his true love, Sue, on the square of Indianola. They have been married for 28 years. They both loved warm weather places and wintering in Texas. Sonny had worked in construction, heating and cooling, and as an electrician. He was proud to own the family business of Utsler Electric in Indianola, Iowa for many years. Sonny would always help others in need, whether it be moving, building projects or outdoor work. He also was involved with the church from singing in the choir, riding in the Beaverdale parades, mowing, and working on electrical projects. Some of his hobbies and interests included, woodworking, anything electrical, making things work and had the ability to fix anything. He especially loved cars, Harleys, fishing, hunting, and drinking beer! Above everything, Sonny loved his girls, Cindy, Bridget and his wife, Sue. He cherished time spent with his ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Those left to cherish Sonny’s memory include his loving wife of 28 years, Sue Utsler; daughters, Cindy Ball and Bridget (David) Castelluccio; sister, Betty (Tom) Lowe; sisters-in-law, Nancy Baker, June Johnston and Esther (Terry) Halstead; and brothers-in-law, David Reynolds and Mark Reynolds.

Mom, Bridget and Cindy, we are so very sorry for your loss. Sonny was such a warm, loving husband and we really appreciated and loved him. He was always there for any question and could help us fix anything. We loved to talk with him about his interests in cars, politics and recent travels, but the best thing lately was getting to see and hear about the most recent tattoo and the story behind it. We will miss him terribly and hope that you all find comfort in the days ahead. Love and hugs to the family
