Eugene Ackerly

Eugene “Butch” Ackerly, 64, died Saturday, February 14, 2009 at Veterans Hospital in Des Moines from lung cancer. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, February 19, 2009 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service.
Eugene was born December 13, 1944 to Albert and Helen Ackerly in Stewart Manor, New York. He earned several post secondary degrees and served in the Army during the Vietnam War. Eugene retired as a Staff Sergeant in 1983. He was an amazing man and a great Daddy.
Eugene is survived by his daughters, Andrea and Maegan Ackerly and Christine McGregor; and grandchildren, Adriana, Alexzia, Antonio, Alena, and Azael.
