Barbara Acri

Barbara Jean Acri, 74, passed away Monday, February 9, 2009 at Kavanagh on 56th St. after a long courageous battle with lung disease. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 12, 2009 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. with burial at Resthaven Mausoleum in West Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. with family present from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at the funeral home.
Barbara was born February 6, 1935 in Des Moines to Robert and Winnie (Vanscoy) Harrison. She was a beautician for many years, owned and operated First Lady Salon in Windsor Heights and also did hair at Iowa Lutheran Hospital. Barbara then went on to work for Belin Law Firm, retiring in 1997 after 17 years of service. She was a very loving person, always giving of herself and never expecting anything in return and she always treated everyone like family. Barbara was also an avid Younkers shopper.
Barbara is survived by her son, Richard Acri; daughter, Wendy Jo Acri; step-daughter, Theresa Acri; sisters, Mary (Marcel) DuBois and Jeane (Bill) Harrison-Gogerty; brother, Robert Benjamin (Nora) Harrison; sister-in-law, Marilyn Howard; grandchildren, Richard (Lori) Acri, Yavonda (Eric) Armagost, Gabriel Acri, Tyler Acri, Aubrey Reser and Nathan Acri; great-grandchildren, Natalie (Josh), Dominick, Samuel and Maxwell; and great-great-grandson, Joshua; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Yavonda; and brother, Richard.
