Norma Lea Shaw, 77, of Des Moines passed away on February 8, 2009 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Thursday at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home with burial following at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5-8 P.M. Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Norma worked as a nurse at Broadlawns Hospital for 38 years and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Des Moines Chapter and the Clifton Heights Presbyterian Church Easter Lake. She enjoyed collecting teddy bears, quilting, knitting and especially spending time following her grandchildren’s sporting and music events. She is survived by her husband of 56 years Eugene J. Shaw of Des Moines; her children Connie (Gary) Mensing of Des Moines, Peggy (Larry) Rotert of Kansas City and Jeff (Amy) Shaw of West Des Moines; 9 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren and brothers Oliver Kenagy of Corona, CA, Dean (Mary) Kenagy of Marshalltown and Don Kenagy of Plano, TX. Memorial contributions may be made to Clifton Heights Presbyterian Church Easter Lake.

I worked in the Family Health Center at Broadlawns with Norma. I always admired her so much. She carried herself with grace and caring and had a smile to share with everyone. When I think of the impressions she has left upon me, I can only imagine what she has left with you, her family. You have wonderful memories to cherish and to always hold in your heart. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. May God bless you and keep you.

I am so saddened by the loss of your wife, your mother & grandmother. My heart & prayers go out to your family. I remember in our school years how warm & welcoming she always was. I know she will be truly missed. In the loved ones I have lost I have found comfort in the following:
"Perhaps they are not the stars, but rather openings in heaven
where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down
upon us to let us know they are happy."
I find myself looking up to those stars and smiling.

I want to share this verse with you in your loss of Norma Shaw I think she would say this to everyone. I received a copy of this at Margie Kenagys funeral which helped me through her death.
