Rose M. Atkinson

Rose Atkinson passed away in her home on February 2, 2009. She was born November 7, 1920, spending her childhood in Ames and graduating from Ames High School in 1938. She married and moved to a farm near Nevada and in 1955 moved to Norwalk. Rose worked for the Norwalk Community School for over 30 years making her the longest tenured employee at her retirement.
Rose loved flowers and gardening, always finding one more spot to tuck in another beautiful plant. She enjoyed laughing and spending time with her family, friends, and two cats. Rose was a long-time member of the Norwalk United Methodist Church and its Faith Circle.
Rose is survived by her two children, Jerry (Irene) Atkinson and Dianne Smith; three grandchildren, Nikole Monaco, Amy (Scott) Dace, and Chantelle (Rodney) Smith and four great grandchildren.
Services will be 10 AM Friday at Norwalk United Methodist Church with burial following at Norwalk Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 Thursday at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home.
