Service Details

Jeri Brodeen, 78, passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at Iowa Methodist Hospital. Funeral services will be held 10:00 Monday February 2, 2009 at Grandview Lutheran Church, 2930 E. 13th Street, with burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.
Jeri was born on December 30, 1930 to William and Rua Rossean in Albia, Iowa. She graduated from high school in Alma, Arkansas. She married Vernon Brodeen on July 11, 1959 and worked several different jobs, retiring in 1971 as secretary of the Polk County Conservation Board.
She was an avid rose grower and flower arranger. She was a member of the Grandview Lutheran Church and a member of several rose societies, including the Des Moines Rose Society. She was a member of the Greater Des Moines Garden Club and Iowa Regional Lily Society. She created and showed many of her floral arrangements in the Horticultural Building at the Iowa State Fair.
She volunteered with the American Red Cross, Serving on their Disaster Recovery teams, which included service at many different locations in the United States, including service in New Jersey in connection with the 911 Disaster in New York City. She volunteered with the Heritage Gallery, serving as a receptionist. She served on several different committees in her church.
She is survived by her husband Vernon; daughters Michele (William) Snyder of Nauvoo, Ill, Vicki (Fred) Richards of Des Moines and Dana Day of Urbandale; 5 grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren.
Jeri was preceded in death by her parents, William H. and Rua Rossean and brother Jackie Rossean.
