Service Details
David Schomer, 68, passed away May 29, 2019, at Luther Park in Des Moines. He was born on April 11, 1951, in Harlan, Iowa, to Michael and Jean Schomer.
David is survived by his siblings, Gary Schomer, Bruce Schomer, Don Schomer, Jeanette Kirkpatrick, Charlotte Jaschke, and Marcene DeStefano; as well as other loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Mark Schomer, and sister, Lois Morrow.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 1, 2019, at All Saints Catholic Church, 650 NE 52nd Ave. in Des Moines with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Park Area Foundation in care of Highland Hardware or All Saints Catholic Church in loving memory of David.
A special thanks to Dorcia, Pavel, MuSu, Dana and Jessica for the special care given to David over the years.

Jeanette and Charlotte, I have great memories of Dave while growing up in Oak Park. Every time I passed the laundromat on my way to Harding, North, or downtown to work, he was always there with a friendly smile and a wave to make my day! Even now, I cant go through the light at 6th & Euclid without thinking of him. My sympathy goes out to you and your family.

I'm so sorry ! My grandparents were dear friends with the family and lived next door. My siblings and I grew up with Marcene, Lois,Mark,Donny,Bruce,David. Sending prayers and Love to you all!

I grew up with Dave in Highland park. In fact he was just nine days younger than me. Boy could he hit a baseball. !!
Many memories at McHenry Park with Rick Petithory -Clark -Gary and the rest of Highland Park gang. They called him The Mayor of Highland Park ...he will be greatly missed.

Dave was and icon in Oak Park for so many years. Sitting on the bench by the Laundromat on 6th Ave just south of Euclid intersection. He always smiled and waved back at everyone as the said hi out the window of their cars waiting for the light to change.
Always made my day to here him holler "Hi Bob" back at me and he would stop in the hardware store and talk quite a bit.
Thanks for being a friend to us all Dave.
May God hold him close and bring comfort to the Schomer family and friends.

I worked with David in Catholic pastoral services at Trinity Center.
David, for the majority of his life, carried on with the burden of his physical disabilities.
His religious faith became a very important part of his being. He enjoyed saying the Our Father
prayer and receiving holy communion from myself and Father Jose.
I will miss my friend
