Raymond L. Deaton

Raymond Leroy Deaton, 91, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2019 at Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown where he had been a resident for the past six years.

Raymond was born December 26, 1927 in Palmira, Iowa to Leonard and Dorothy (Plummer) Deaton. He proudly served in the United States Navy. He worked for Armstrong Tire for over 39 years as a laborer. He was a member of Easton Baptist Church. Raymond enjoyed listening to his wife sing gospel music, fishing, and reading westerns.

Raymond is survived by his children, Sandy, Connie, Debbie, and Brian; step-daughters, Kathy Miller and Melodee Tufts; 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren; and brother, Gary Deaton.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maryanna Ruth (Scott) Deaton; parents, Leonard and Dorothy Deaton; brothers, Dick and Norman “Dean”; sister, Marjorie Marco; and his son, Terry Deaton.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. A graveside committal service at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter will take place at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 22, 2019/
