Shawna McNamara Kachel
May 16, 2019
Shawna (McNamara) Kachel, 35, passed away far too soon from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on May 16, 2019.
Shawna was born in Des Moines where she graduated from Valley High School in 2002. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Grand View University where she graduated with honors in 2007. Shawna met the love of her life Andrew while attending Grand View. They were married in Key West in April 2013. Through this marriage, she became the mother of their two beautiful boys, 3-1/2 year-old, Colton and 7-month old, Kade.
Shawna was most recently employed at the Ob-Gyn Specialist office in Cedar Rapids as a medical office coordinator with co-workers she loved. Her number one and most important job was being a wife and a mom.
Shawna lived spontaneously and loved to travel. She enjoyed music and loved to sing. She had many joys in life, loved to laugh with friends and family, and was fiercely loyal.
Shawna will be greatly missed by her husband, Andrew; her two boys, Kade and Colton; her parents, Ruth and David; her brother, Ben (Joey) McNamara and their two daughters, Emersyn and Marley; her sister, Heather (Nate); her paternal grandmother, Nadine; her mother-in-law, Louise; her sister-in-law, Maria (Craig); and a host of extended family. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, her paternal grandfather, and her father-in-law, Doug.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 24 at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 3900 Ashworth Road in West Des Moines. Family will greet guests from 6:00-9:00 p.m., Thursday, May 23 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway also in West Des Moines. She will be laid to rest at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family for future designation.

Although we didnt know Shawna and her siblings that well we were definitely blessed and will always remember her amazing parents during our time at Shepherd of the Valley.
Such a tragedy of a life lost way too soon, but I can only think of what God tells us His ways our not our ways. Our deepest heartfelt sympathy to the family and friends who will feel her loss indefinitely. Gods peace and comfort be with you ??

Dave and Ruth,
May God grant you peace and relief from this terrible event. As is said at 1 Corinthians For now we see through a glass darkly, but then face to face: now I know in part, but then I shall know even as I am known. 1 Cor. 13:12

Shawna touched so many lives in her short time here on earth. She was a living angel for all of us. I worked with her for several years and she always showed so much compassion for her patients and coworkers. I am truly heartbroken for her family. God is with you all.

I knew Shawna as my next door neighbor when she lived on 47th St. She was a beautiful and wonderful person. She was the closest friend I had. There are no words to express my sorrow for your loss. I lost my younger brother in the same manner...so Ben and Heather, I understand your grief, and the sadness of watching your parents gripped with the worst pain a parent can bear. My love and prayers are with you all.

I was a coworker of Shawna's. She had a special way of brightening up your day and making everyone feel special. From her quirky hellos in the hall, to hand written birthday cards, surprise snacks, and extravagant secret santa gifts. She truly did have a heart of gold and has left a lasting impression on all of us to share her memories. Heaven gained a beautiful angel.

Shawna was a co-worker of mine at Cedar Rapids OB/GYN Specialists. My heart aches for your loss. Shawna loved her family and especially her boys more than anything. She was always smiling and going out of her way for everyone. No words can ever express how incredibly sorry I am.

I was a coworker of Shawnas. She is going to be greatly missed. She had the perfect amount of compassion, wit and sarcasm to keep us all going. She had a gift for knowing when we needed donuts also. Praying for her family that memories will help ease the sorrow.
