John David Rasmussen, age 66, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 12, 2019, surrounded by his family.

John was born January 28, 1953 in Iowa Falls, Iowa to Carl and Ruth Rasmussen. He retired from Meredith Corporation April 1, 2015. John attended Creekside Church in Urbandale. He was a member of Christian Church of Damasco of the Living God in Camuy, Puerto Rico, worshipping under Pastor Nilda Jimenéz. John and his wife, Lisa, sponsored a little girl for nine years through World Vision International. He helped anyone in need. He enjoyed fishing, riding dirt bikes and four-wheelers, playing golf, and gardening. John loved the Bible and he loved telling others about the unending radical grace of Jesus. Above all, John cherished his family. He loved spending time with them telling stories; John could talk for hours! If there was a person within 50 feet of him, he would make friends with them. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

John is survived by his wife of 18 years, Elizabeth “Lisa” Rasmussen; children: Johnny Rasmussen, Eric (Mitzi) Rasmussen, Amy (Colby) Gochanour, John (Ashley) Cardona, Angel Montijo, David (Stephanie) Gonzalez, Chrissy O’Brien, and Yolanda (Brett) Carter; nineteen grandchildren; brother, Paul (Lisa) Rasmussen; sisters, Marcia Bowman and Marlys (James) Williams; and a host of other extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Ruth Rasmussen; brothers, Robert Rasmussen and Carl Rasmussen, Jr.; and sister, Marie Main.

Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 17, 2019 at Creekside Church, 2743 82nd Place, Urbandale. Burial will take place at Sunny Hill Cemetery in Grimes, Iowa after the services. Please rejoin the family at Creekside Church for a celebration of life potluck immediately following the burial. Any dishes to pass would be greatly appreciated.
