Kenneth Richard Soady, age 64, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at the VA Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Kenneth was born April 19, 1955, in Rock Island, Illinois to Richard and Carol (Webb) Soady. After graduating from high school, Kenneth enlisted in the United States Army. He served as an administrative assistant for the Veterans Affairs office in Des Moines up until his passing. In 1976, Kenneth married Melody (Gardner) Soady and to this union two children were born, Amanda and Adam. He later married Marsha Soady, and together they had Hailey.

He enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, playing softball, as well as cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Bears. He was a huge Rock Island Rocks fan and loved supporting his grandchildren in their many activities. He enjoyed his outings to Harris Pizza, the famous “Quad Cities-style pizza.” Above all else, he treasured time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Amanda (Cory) LeVan, Adam Soady, and Hailey Soady (Michael Hammer); grandchildren, Emily LeVan, Collin LeVan and Sophia Soady; mother, Carol Bayert; sisters, Beth Frey, Diane (John) Griffin and Eve (Keith) Miller; brother-in-law, Art Adler; special friend, Marilee McNeece; numerous nieces and nephews; other loving relatives and many special friends.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife, Marsha in 2005; fathers, Richard Soady and Mark Bayert; and his sister, Linda Adler.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2019 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service with military honors will take place at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2019 at Windsor United Methodist Church, 6222 University Avenue, Des Moines, with a reception to follow. Cremation will occur after the funeral. Burial of the urn will be Friday, May 10, 2019 at Rock Island National Cemetery in Rock Island, Illinois at 12:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Windsor United Methodist Church in loving memory of Kenneth.
