Gloria Robbins
April 26, 2019
Gloria Mae Robbins, age 93, passed away peacefully Friday, April 26, 2019 at Westview of Indianola Care Center in Indianola, Iowa.
Gloria was born October 16, 1925 in Des Moines, Iowa to Dennis and Helen (Knight) Martin. During her working years, she was employed by Des Moines Public Schools as a kitchen worker. Gloria loved children! She took care of kids throughout her entire life and all who encountered her were blessed by her presence. She loved to cook and bake and always opened her home and her heart to everyone. Gloria’s family was her pride and joy. She loved spoiling her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and treasured every second spent with her family. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting and knitting and was very proud of the fact that she was self-taught. Gloria’s passing has left a void that cannot be filled. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Janet (Jerry) Richmond, Susan Robbins, and Linda (Ron) Wilson; granddaughters, Stacie (Rick) Gering, Andrea Richmond (Beau Dunn), and Tiffany Wilson; great-grandchildren, Cory Hunt and Avery Dunn; siblings, Donald Martin, Dorothy Remster, Robert Martin, Sandra (Butch) Waddell, Sharon (Al) Hanson, Frank (Terri) Martin, and Kathy (Jim) Rosenbalm; as well as many other loving relatives and special friends.
Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Robbins; siblings, Arthur “Bud” Martin and Norma Doescher; and her parents.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2019 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, with burial to follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Westview Care Center and Suncrest Hospice for all their care and friendship. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.

Janet: My deepest sympathies to you and your family at this time of great loss. Remembering your mother from visiting in your home while in high school (many years ago), she was always so kind to a bunch of silly high school girls. Thinking of you.

My goodness. What can I even say? She was the sunshine on my hard days at westview. Sue, your mother was an amazing, beautiful, kind woman, inside and out. She noticed things about us that no others did, she was always so grateful and always made sure we knew it. I am so blessed to have been able to know her, and I will forever cherish her loving comments when she saw I was having a rough day, or her encouragement when I was in my last month of pregnancy. I loved your mother like my own family. And I will greatly miss her every day.
My condolences and love.

Sue: I will have you and your family in my prayers. I was very blessed to have taken care of your mother. She was such a sweet lady in a joy to be around. I love how when I would go into her room and sing her name she would sing my name back. She was the only person that called me Katrina I love and will miss her.
