Edna “Nana” Ryan, 73, lost her battle with cancer on January 21, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Edna is survived by her only daughter, Dixie (Ted) Millard; her sister, Donna (Dick) Wolver; brothers, Fatso (Hazel), Doodle (Toni), Johnny (Rita) and Ron Courtney; granddaughters, Billi Jo (Kasey) Overton and Christi (Brandon) Scott; and her five great-grandchildren, Zach, Chris, LeeAnn, Courtney and Tori. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chuck; parents, John and Faye Courtney; sister, Shirley Jones; brothers, Bud (Shirley), Hap (Geri) and Jim (Jeri) Courtney.

Dearest Dixie, we are so sorry that we have lost Ed. She was always there for EVERYONE! When Little Hap had his series of back surgeries years ago when we were first married, she and Donna and Grandma Faye were always on their way to Colorado to be with us!!!! As the years passed, you became the "driver" and no matter what happened in Colorado or South Dakota, we knew the "Dixie Chicks" (as Big Hap called you guys!) would be there! Your mom was a VERY special lady and you took VERY good care of her ALWAYS! As an only child myself, I've always felt the loss of my own mom was even harder than people who had brothers and sisters to help them through it. But one thing about OUR family, is that you a have a HUGE number of family members that will be there to help you through these hard times. As with you, my mom was my BEST friend, and even though she has been gone for 14 years now, I think of her every day and still miss her terribly. Just concentrate on the many wonderful memories you have of you wonderful mother! Please get some rest and take care of yourself--you know we are always here for you. We love you MUCH and know that Aunt Ed will always hold a VERY special place in our hearts.

My prayers go out to the family,This is a day that I had never thought would come when everyone must say goodbye to such a wonderful lady. She will be missed by so many people,I am so glad I had her in part my life. I will always remember the great thing she tought me. Nana you will always be remembered and you will always hold a special spot in my heart for that im greatful.

Well, I was going to write this lastnight, but didn't have the strength. I have to agree with Jack, she is in a better place, with her loved ones. I'm at a loss for words, but just know that I am here for any of you, if you need anything. WE all will miss her dearly, but so glad she didn't have to suffer long. And thank goodness for all the memories we have to cherish.

Ted Dixie and the rest of the family,I am so sad to hear of the passing of aunt Edna.I was on my way to see her today on my lunch hour,when I heard that she had left us.I know to live is to die but that doesnt change the way we all feel during these times saddness and sorrow followed by remembrance of better times gone by.I hadnt even thought about how grandma was feeling watching her only sister leave before her very eyes.We can only hope that uncle Chuck was standing there waiting for her with open arms to take her home.Please know that I loved aunt Edna and if there is anything I can do please let me know... I love all of you jack jr.
